Our courses are unusual in that they are always very small groups (we only sell 3 tickets per session.)

You won't be lost in a large group or left to struggle! Your project can be customised to your desires.

You will be learning in a relaxed environment where the content, timings and structure of the day can be customised to your requirements.

My name is Jon. I'm the Kerr Forge resident Blacksmith, and you'll have my undivided attention during your experience day. I love teaching and I'm enthusiastic about helping you turn your ideas into a reality!

I also love history, and hopefully I can share some fun Blacksmithing related stories and anecdotes which will give you an entertaining understanding of the history of the craft.

I make sure I have a variety of exciting (and expensive) materials available to use in your designs, including exotic woods for handles, beautiful mosaic pins for knives, and the best quality high carbon steel which will remain sharp in use.

I'm keen to do everything I can to ensure the products you take home are beautiful objects that you will be proud to show off to your friends and family, and will last a lifetime (and longer!).

You can make any kind of knife you like. Most commonly this is a kitchen knife or a camp/survival knife, but I will work with you to make your dream custom knife.

As with all our courses, this can be tailored exactly to your requirements.

We can make any kind of axe you like, up to around 3lb. Most commonly this is a small hatchet for chopping logs and kindling, or a well-balanced carving axe for green woodworking.

Great for anyone with a log burner, pizza oven, or a desire to become a Viking!

This is aimed at those who want to learn the basics of the craft, and perhaps take up Blacksmithing as a hobby or career.

You will learn the fundamentals of forging such as tapering, drawing-out and twisting. We'll also cover the basics of heat treating to harden steel tools.

You'll leave with a handful of useful items and a great foundation of skills to put to future use.

There is also an add-on to "make your own rail anvil", and we'll build your very own anvil and use it all day for the rest of the forging.

A great day out for couples, a fantastic memory for a parent and son/daughter (aged 14+) or possibly even the world's most awesome first-date!

Two people can attend on a single ticket and work together to forge a variety of items of your choice. You're welcome to bring your own project ideas too!

Popular options are sets of BBQ tools, Fireplace tools, Keyrings, Hooks/Brackets for your home, hanging basket brackets, or fun decorative pieces like forged snails or dragonflys.

This experience is perfect for someone looking for some extra special wedding rings.

The rings will be hand forged from stainless steel, then ground to shape and finished to your taste. You can shine them to a mirror finish which will be almost indiscernible from silver or white gold, or you can do a hammered effect, matt finish or a brushed steel effect.

For an additional cost we can send the rings away for gold, silver or rhodium (white gold) plating.

Spend a day forging beautiful jewellery from stainless steel. You can draw inspiration from Viking style jewellery from history, or you can bring along your own ideas.
