This course is aimed at those who are serious about starting Blacksmithing as a hobby or career, and want to learn the basics properly before setting out on their own!

This course can be tailored to your individual level of experience, but for an absolute beginner it might look something like:

  • Introduction to Blacksmithing and Fire Management.
  • Basic techniques- tapering, drawing out, twisting, bending, upsetting.
  • Make a basic hook.
  • Introduction to basic tool making and heat treating.
  • Make your own round punch, and heat treat appropriately.
  • If there's time, use your own punch to make your own bottle opener!

By the end of the course, you'll have a couple of items to take away and at least one useful tool to get you started in your Blacksmithing journey!

It should be noted, this course can be combined with the "Make your own Anvil" course and completed together the same day! This means you can use your own anvil (which you build in the morning!) to construct all the items during the day's forging.

This one-day course is for one person. If you'd like to attend as a pair, two tickets will be required.

The Kerr Forge Blacksmith, Jon, will be alongside to help and advise at every step to ensure you take home items  you are proud to use for a lifetime.

Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 2 weeks before the course starts. Start dates may be amended on request.
