Kids "Make your own Slingshot" Blacksmithing Session

About this experience

Over 11s Blacksmith Experience- Make your own slingshot - £50 (for a parent and child together: one ticket per pair).

·        Must be accompanied by a responsible adult who will help with the work!

·        Age 11+, more suitable for 14+.

·        Approx 2-3hrhrs, work at your own pace.

·        Jon the Blacksmith will give a short talk on Blacksmithing to give the kids an introduction to the craft, and a little history.

·        Health and Safety talk and intro to tools (hammers, anvils and fire!)

·        Demonstration of the process of making the slingshot.

·        Kids will be given their own pieces of steel and (with parent) will forge their slingshot to shape, install the band and leather cup.

·        Kids can choose to polish or leave forge-blackened, and we will wax the finished product.

·        You can try it out on our target, and take home a small amount of mud-ball ammunition.

*Important note: Upon leaving, PARENTS WILL TAKE OWNERSHIP AND RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SLINGSHOT. With the wrong ammunition (stones, ball bearings, etc) the slingshot is a dangerous weapon. Parents must be careful to ensure it is only used in a safe manner, under adult supervision, in a suitable location, and never fired at another person or animal or in a location where a “miss” could damage property or hurt someone.
